A painted plaque of the British Leyland Mini 1275 GT badge

This sign is a reproduction of the classic British Leyland Mini 1275 GT badge. I painted it on 12mm square edge Mdf which I finished in matt Anchor (black) Dixie Belle Mineral Paint, overvarnished then distressed so as to achieve a subtle brushed steel effect, the red panel is also a matt finish. I painted the white lettering and borderline, and silver shadow lines in 1Shot Sign Painters gloss enamel.

I enjoyed the process of recreating this sign as it involved many varied approaches to achieve the finished artwork.

This is a great sign for those who appreciate traditional craftmanship over the quick click print culture.

I painted this sign, using traditional signwriting techniques and products, skills which I learnt many years ago, then reluctantly discarded; a lost love I have recently rekindled.

Being hand painted this sign is unique, individual and its characteristics in the lettering and artwork reflect my own ability with a brush as no part of it was machine printed.

I use salvaged panel materials when appropriate to add aesthetically qualities to my signs and to also help the planet.
