I painted this sign, using traditional signwriting techniques and products, skills which I learnt many years ago, then reluctantly discarded; a lost love I have recently rekindled.

Being hand painted this sign is unique, individual and its characteristics in the lettering and artwork reflect my own ability with a brush as no part of it was machine printed.

I use salvaged panel materials when appropriate to add aesthetically qualities to my signs and to also help the planet.

I came across the original ‘Open Last Admission 15 min Before Closing’ hand painted sign when in Hampshire UK and liked its layout and the fonts used. I photographed it and recreated this copy. The sign has ‘Open’ in pale gold with the other text in white lettering, painted using traditional signwriting techniques and products. I painted this sign on a 6mm mid-green satin Mdf panel measuring 30cm x 21cm.

This is a great sign for those who appreciate traditional craftmanship over the click, quick print culture.
